EXPANDING REGIONAL HEALTHCARE ACCESS
In August 2026, the Rivers State Government commissioned the remodelled and fully furnished 105-bed Omoku Zonal Hospital in Ogba–Egbema–Ndoni Local Government Area.
The three-storey secondary healthcare facility represents a significant investment in expanding access to medical services beyond the state capital and bringing essential healthcare closer to Omoku and neighbouring communities.

The Nigeria Stability Index recognises Rivers State for delivering measurable healthcare infrastructure with the potential to improve public welfare and strengthen confidence in state-level service delivery.
Recognition is based on documented completion and commissioning in August 2026. Continued impact will depend on the facility remaining fully staffed, equipped, accessible and operational.
Institution Spotlight
NCTC-LED JOINT SECURITY TEAM
In August 2026, a coordinated intelligence-led security operation rescued 308 abducted Nigerians from the Kainji Lake National Park forest. The operation was coordinated through the National Counter-Terrorism Centre and involved personnel from the Armed Forces of Nigeria, Department of State Services and Nigeria Police Force. Among those rescued were: * 163 people abducted from Woro Community in Kwara State * 145 people abducted mainly from Niger State

The operation was described as the largest number of abducted Nigerians recovered by a joint security team in a single day.

The Nigeria Stability Index recognises the National Counter-Terrorism Centre, Armed Forces of Nigeria, Department of State Services and Nigeria Police Force for the coordination and execution of this significant rescue operation.
The recognition honours the collective institutional effort and the personnel involved. It does not diminish the continuing security challenges facing communities across Nigeria or remove the need for stronger prevention, early-warning and rapid-response systems.
